The news keep the common people informed of what is happening in the world around them. Not everyone reads the news or cares about what happens in the world around them, but the government certainly cares about what the news says about them. The government always has to be careful about what they reveal to the public, in order to keep the public in a constantly calm state. But most news reporters will do almost anything in order to get a good story. Some of the very best stories would come from the government, so reporters always question the smallest things about the government. They also generate a lot of media press about decisions that the government makes. This way, the news keeps the government in check by making sure the public knows as much as possible about the government. The news can also point out certain flaws made by the government that the common man may have never noticed.
